My baby boy has turned ONE and of course I had to do a cake smash photoshoot for him. The idea of cake smash photoshoot was very exciting for me, as a mother. I really wanted to capture the cuteness of my baby boy while playing and eating his first cake. As this is exactly what cake smash is all about – having your baby celebrating his/her first birthday while smashing the cake!
From my experience as a photographer, I can say that not all one year-olds eager to smash the cake. Some of them never tasted sweets before, and therefore; they are not particularly keen on tasting and destroying their first cake. It was the case with my son.
Robert did not find the idea of getting dirty very exciting. Testing his cake seamed to him even less appealing. He resisted in the beginning to even touch the cake making me work extra hard for these photographs.
And trust me he is not the only baby who does not find the idea of smashing the cake very exciting! I’ve seen quite a few babies not being so keen on playing with their cake during the Cake Smash Photoshoot.
Each baby is very unique and different from the others, so I always adapt to each of them during my photo sessions to get the best results possible. What helps a lot is trying to give a piece of cake to a baby. The sweet taste usually attracts baby’s attention to the cake. Once the interest for the cake is there, we are snapping left and right all the cuteness that happens in the studio! Check for yourself!
Needless to say that I still managed to take these cute photographs during Robert’s Cake Smash Photoshoot. And I will cherish these pictures for years to come. One happy mama is here!
